Notes: Joan's ancestry is not entirely clear. The IPM for Thomas le Fitz Bernard, provides some clues:
Writ of certiorari to John de Bousser and others, on the complaint of Bona late the wife of the said Thomas, that he, whom while living she could not gainsay, had given the manor of Kyngesdon, which she held jointly with him, to Bartholomew de Badelesmere, by whose forfeiture it was taken into the king’s hand, and that the said Thomas has now died, 14 February, 16 Edward II.
Kyngesdoune. John de Northwode by fine levied in the king’s court in 6 Edward II, granted the manor to the said Thomas and Bona to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said Thomas, with remainder to Bartholomew de Badelesmere and his heirs;

Notes: Bartholomew's IPM identifies his heir as Giles de Badlesmere, his son, and highlights his extensive land ownership across the country.

Bartholomew served in Edward I's armies including on campaigns in Gascony, Flanders and Scotland.

Bartholomew was tried and executed for supporting rebellion against the Despencers.
